Currently pursuing various educational opportunities,
Alicia Barnett has served as a chiropractic assistant and worked in the racing and veteran support industries. A lover of art, Alicia Barnett enjoys drawing almost anything.
In order to draw well, you must first train your eye to observe, especially if you want to create realistic drawings. As you learn to note various shapes and how they relate to each other, you develop the skill of recognizing spatial relationships. Through practice, that observation can then guide you in transferring those relationships to the page.
When practicing observation, think about what you see in terms of apparent size and shape, rather than the actual dimensions of the objects. Start by noting the big-picture relationships before you focus in on the details.
If you have something specific in mind you want to draw, spend some time
observing it first in real life or in a picture. Even if you want to draw fantastical creations, the skills you learn from that process will transfer over, allowing you to create artwork with proper proportions.
